Captured in 1995, this image depicts a Zairian, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinician, caring for a patient with Ebola, also referred to as Ebola virus disease (EVD), inside Kikwit General Hospital, located in what was known as the country of Zaire, which has since become the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Note the use of precautionary personal protective equipment (PPE), which shielded these clinicians from this highly-pathogenic virus during treatment.
