This photomicrograph reveals some of the histopathologic changes in this unidentified tissue sample, which had been processed using the Dieterle silver stain, in a case of Lyme disease. Note the presence of a number of Borrelia burgdorferi spirochetes, the etiologic agent causing Lyme disease.
