This 1950 photograph was provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The image depicted the interior of the Rock of Ages stone quarry in Vermont. Visible in the photograph were two men in a bucket, overlooking the quarry. Workers can be exposed to potential respiratory health hazards, as well as other physical injuries, when working in the stone cutting and quarrying industries.
