Caption:
This transmission electron microscopic (TEM) image depicts multiple Orientia tsutsugamushi bacteria, formerly known as Rickettsia tsutsugamushi, that were free within the cytoplasm of a mouse brain capillary endothelial cell. In this instance, the capillary wall appears to have been cut in a longitudinal section, with the vessel lumen at the top. Part of the host cell nucleus is visible on the far right.
