Caption:
The visually-impaired person in this image was depicted interacting with a sign indicating the location of a stairwell labeled "B", which was adjacent to a men's restroom sign that used a large, blue, readily visible universal symbol describing a male. Included in the signage was an auditory output device, which improved the ability for each sign to impart its message to a much greater degree. This was one of a series of images provided by North Carolina State University’s Center for Universal Design. “The Center for Universal Design is a national research, information, and technical assistance center that evaluates, develops, and promotes universal design in housing, public and commercial facilities, and related products.” See PHIL 9006 for another view depicting a women's restroom sign.
