Though the man depicted in this 1946 historical photograph was seated next to an exhaust ventilation device, inside a tungsten carbide machine shop, he would have been even further protected had he been wearing a face mask filtration unit. Unlike this man, today’s workers are warned to wear a protective mask and gloves, protect eyes from airborne dust contamination, and avoid eating, drinking, or smoking while in the machine shop environment, which could lead to the ingestion of dust contaminants.
