Caption:
This historic diagram, which had been digitally enhanced, depicted an improperly constructed municipal drilled well. The chief objection to the design, was the inclusion of what was potentially, an unsanitary well pit configuration. As was one of a series of instructional drawings, this image was used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train the state's public health workers. The focus of these images, was on protecting potable water supplies from bacterial contamination, due to incorrect disposal of waste, including sewage that might foul ground water, lakes, rivers, and streams.
