This historic view of the Mississippi River was taken from under the west arch of the Ford Bridge, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 4, 1933. It was created during a Minnesota Department of Health study of the public bathing, and recreation areas along the river. As one of a series of instructional images, used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train its state public health workers, the purpose of the photographs, and the accompanying training, was focused on protecting water supplies from bacterial contamination.
