This historic photograph depicted a number of young men, who were swimming in the Mississippi River below Pike Island, June 13, 1933. It was created during a Minnesota Department of Health study of the public bathing, and recreation areas along the river. This was one of a series of instructional images, used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train its state public health workers. The purpose of the photographs, and the accompanying training, was focused on protecting water supplies from bacterial contamination.
