Caption:
This historic 1934 photograph revealed an accumulation of dead carp that had washed up on the shore of Lake Byllesby, Minnesota. The fish were killed by pollution that fouled the lake. This was one of a series of instructional images used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train the state's public health workers. The purpose of the images, and the associated training, was focused on protecting public water supplies from bacterial contamination.
