Caption:
This historic photograph depicted a sequestered canine suspected of being rabid, exhibiting signs of restlessness, and overall uncharacteristic aggressive behavior, which are two symptoms of rabies. Other symptoms of rabies in pets may include impaired walking, eating and drinking. The direct fluorescent antibody test (DFA) is the test most frequently used to definitively diagnose a case of rabies. This test requires that a brain tissue sample be harvested from animals suspected of being rabid, and can only be performed post-mortem.
