This historic 1978 photograph depicts former Chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Special Pathogens Branch, Dr. Karl M. Johnson, inside one of the earlier BSL-4 Maximum Containment Labs. Note that Dr. Johnson was wearing his sealed, positively-pressured containment suit while inside the laboratory environment.
