This historic 1968 photograph depicted a National Communicable Disease Center (NCDC) laboratorian inoculating 10-day-old embryonated chicken eggs with specimens containing the influenza virus. The NCDC (1967-1970) was one of the forerunners of the more contemporary Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which was officially named in 1992.
