Description:This photograph shows Dr. James Hughes (left), head of the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), and Dr. William L. Roper (right), former Director of the CDC (1990 – 1993), presenting a 1993 CDC Achievement Award to Dr. Jay D. Wenger (center), who at that time was the Chief of the Childhood and Respiratory Diseases Branch.
After leaving the CDC, Dr. Wenger headed up the World Health Organization’s National Polio Surveillance Project (NPSP) in India.
