Description:This photograph shows Dr. Jonathan Richmond, who at the time was the Director of the Centers for Disease Control’s Office of Health and Safety, as he was addressing colleagues on topics concerning issues surrounding laboratory safety during Safety Awareness Week, 1993.
Dr. Richmond, an international authority on biosafety and laboratory containment design, was trained as a geneticist, and had worked for ten years as a research virologist. Since his retirement from the CDC, Dr. Richmond has remained involved in the field of laboratory biosafety.
