Description:This photograph shows Dr. Jonathan Richmond, who at the time was the Director of the Centers for Disease Control’s Office of Health and Safety (left), as he was receiving a 1993 CDC Achievement Award from Dr. David Taylor of the Office of Health and Safety.
Dr. Richmond, an international authority on biosafety and laboratory containment design, was trained as a geneticist, and had worked for ten years as a research virologist. Since his retirement from the CDC, Dr. Richmond has remained involved in the field of laboratory biosafety.
