Under a magnification of 182X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicted a superior view of the triangular grouping of three ocelli, or simple eyes, located on the vertex of a Western honeybee’s, Apis mellifera, head, or cephalic region. Also apparent, was an exoskeletal surface that was covered by sensorial hairs of various lengths, known as setae.
