Under a low magnification of 24X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicted a superior view of the head capsule, and the cephalothoracic junction, or the junction of this Western honeybee’s, Apis mellifera, head and thorax. Revealed are the bee’s two laterally situated large compound eyes, the three triangularly arranged, medially located, ocelli, or simple eyes, the two laterally situated antennae, and an exoskeletal surface that is covered by setae, or sensorial hairs of various lengths.
