This photograph was taken during a CDC hurricane Katrina planning meeting, which was held in the Director’s Emergency Operations Center (DEOC), which took place August 29, 2005. CDC’s response to the disaster left by Hurricane Katrina, included the deployment of hundreds of employees to affected areas. Those deployed, along with many here in Atlanta, worked to support the affected states’ public health response. HHS and CDC worked under the coordinating leadership of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), part of the Department of Homeland Security, in order to meet the requests of the affected states, and address the most pressing public health needs.
