This 2005 photograph shows a meeting of CDC’s Excellence in Learning Council (ELC). Shown here are (left to right) was the Dir. of the Div. of Strategic Programs, Jeff Adair; VP for Programs, CDC Foundation, Verla Neslund; Sr. Service Fellow, Joan Cioffi; Dir. of the Office of Workforce and Career Development (OWCD), Stephen B. Thacker; in the background was Medical Epidemiologist, Robin Ikeda. The ELC provided guidance and operational direction to workforce and career development programs across CDC. Modeled after the Excellence in Science Committee, the Council ensured that strategic workforce activities, including educational training, were of the highest quality, and were aligned with agency-wide goals. The target audience included not only CDC staff, but also the rest of the nation’s public health workforce.
