This is a portrait of G. Robert Coatney, Ph.D. (1909-1991), the Director of the National Institute of Health’s Laboratory of Parasite Chemotherapy from 1935 to 1975. Dr. Coatney was instrumental in developing the drug chloroquine, used in the treatment of malaria. He was a career U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) officer.
