At a magnification of 7766X, this 2005 scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image revealed a number of red blood cells (RBCs) found enmeshed in a fibrinous matrix on the luminal surface of an indwelling vascular catheter. Some of the erythrocytes were grouped in a stack known as a Rouleau formation. See PHIL 10902 for a colorized version of this SEM.
