Description:This 2004 image showed CDC bio-medical photographer James Gathany observing fungal specimens, which he was about to photograph. This image was actually a self-portrait, for it was captured by Mr. Gathany in his own distinguished photographic style.
Mr. Gathany began his CDC career in 1986, and though his specialty is bio-medical photography, he is highly skilled at photographing human interest-related subject matter, including CDC-related events, and portraiture. Many of the Public Health Image Library’s photographs are produced by Jim, and his associate, Greg Knobloch, here at the CDC’s Headquarters on the Roybal Campus, in Atlanta, Georgia.
