Caption:
This 2004 image depicted Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Bio-medical Photographer, James Gathany, while he was analyzing fungal culture dish specimens, which he was about to photograph. This image was actually a self-portrait, for it was captured by Mr. Gathany, in his own inimitable photographic style. Jim began his CDC career in 1986, and though his specialty is bio-medical photography, he is highly skilled at photographing human interest-related subject matter, including CDC-related events, and portraiture. Many of the Public Health Image Library’s photographs were produced by Jim, and his former associate, Greg Knobloch, here, at the CDC’s Headquarters on the Roybal Campus, in Atlanta, Georgia.
