This portrait featured retired, former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Marketing, Health Communications Specialist, Richard L. "Dick" Welch. Mr. Welch spent 24-years in the United States Air Force (USAF), mainly in the field of publications management, and then began his career with the CDC in 1989, as the Publications Branch Chief, at the National Center for Health Statistics in Hyattsville, Maryland. In 2000, he transferred to CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, where he served in several leadership positions in the Division of Professional Development and Evaluation. As the Acting Chief of the Creative Arts Branch, he led efforts to integrate advanced media capabilities including web design, 3-D animation and digital photography. Mr. Welch retired from CDC in May 2005.
