This 1968 photograph, captured during the Nigerian-Biafran civil war, depicted the terrain outside of a Red Cross refugee relief camp during the Nigerian-Biafran civil war. In 1967, the National Communicable Disease Center (NCDC) responded to widespread famine among refugees of the civil war by carrying out rapid health and nutrition assessments, coordinating the overall health and nutrition response, and implementing surveillance systems to track rates of illness and death.
