This 1967 photograph depicted a Togolese woman being vaccinated against smallpox, and was taken just prior to the kick-off of the Global Smallpox Eradication Program, whereupon, the world's public health organizations, led by the United States and the then-Soviet Union, came together to join in the fight to eradicate smallpox from the world.
