This illustration depicts two members of the suborder Anoplura, or “sucking lice”, the “body louse”, Pediculus humanus var. corporis (Lt), and a “crab louse”, Phthirus pubis (Rt). The suborder Anoplura is further subdivided into two groups, those with eyes, and those without eyes. Both genera, Pediculus and Phthirus, are amongst those members that do possess eyes located bilaterally of either side of their head region.
