This gonococcal arthritic patient presented with an inflammation of the skin of her right arm, due to a disseminated Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacterial infection. N. gonorrhoeae, a Gram-negative diplococcus, and the causative agent for gonorrhea. Though these bacteria can infect the genital tract, the mouth, and the rectum, they can also become disseminated throughout a person’s bloodstream, causing a widespread systemic infection.
