Description:This individual, shown here cooking on a “brai”, which is a (BBQ) grill, contracted Marburg hemorrhagic fever, and became the index case, or case #1, for the Rhodesian, now Zimbabwean Marburg fever outbreak of 1975.
This traveler was infected while hitchhiking with a companion, who most likely took this photograph, through Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), and was later hospitalized in Johannesburg, South Africa.
