This image depicts a ventral, or anterior view of a patient’s wrists, revealing the presence of a dermatitic condition, which was diagnosed as lichen planus (LP), a skin disorder, the cause of which remains unknown. Suspected etiology includes stress-related factors, autoimmune origins, or possible viral pathogenic influences such as hepatitis C. LP is characterized by scaly flattened bumps, which appear erythematous, and usually manifests itself on ones wrists and ankles. Lichen planus affects the middle aged adult, rarely affecting children and the elderly, and has a predilection for no one demographic group.
