Caption:
Under a magnification of 747X, four-times greater than that of PHIL 6446, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image reveals the roughened surface texture at the very tip, of one of the two bifurcated smallpox vaccination needle prongs. This is the type of needle used to administer smallpox vaccine, by abrading the skin at the vaccination site, thereby, introducing the vaccinia virus into the wound.
