Description: Caption:
This photograph depicted a close superior-frontal view of what was the Osborne 1, a laptop computer, first used at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 1981, and was considered the first true portable computer. The Osborne 1 featured an optional battery pack, 5-inch screen that displayed 52-characters per line of text, though one could scroll horizontally in order to view up to 128-characters, and was considered airline carry-on luggage, which could fit under the passenger seat of any commercial airliner. Though the Osborne 1 was considered highly portable, it weighed an amazing 24.5-pounds.
