This photograph depicts a close right lateral view of a patient’s penis, revealing the presence of a cutaneous lesion that was determined to be granuloma inguinale, also referred to as genital ulcerative disease, or Donovanosis. The lesion was analyzed, and tested positive for the presence of Donovan bodies. Granuloma inguinale is a sexually transmitted disease. It is a slowly progressive ulcerative condition of the skin and lymphatics of the genital, and perianal area, caused by the Gram-negative bacterium, Klebsiella granulomatis formerly Calymmatobacterium granulomatis.
