This image depicts a close view of the surface of a patient’s leg, on which you’re able to see a pustule surrounded by an erythematous halo. This inflamed lesion resulted from the bite of a fire ant, Solenopsis saevissima, a native to South America, that was introduced to the United States through the importation of agricultural products.
