This is a dorsal view of an American cockroach, Periplaneta americana, a vector for a number of pathogenic organisms. P. americana, is one of the most abundant pests to inhabit locations of human habitation. One of their favorite sites is the kitchen, where they are often responsible for contaminating foods, thereby, spreading disease.
