Under a magnification of 3006X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image depicts a large grouping of rod-shaped, Gram-positive Clostridium difficile bacteria. These organisms were obtained as a result of an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness, and were cultured from a stool sample. The bacteria were extracted using a .1┬Ám filter. See PHIL 9999 for a colorized version of this image.
