Caption:
This posterior-anterior (PA) chest x-ray depicts evidence of atelectasis, and bronchiectasis, which were present in this child’s right upper pulmonary lung field. Atelectasis, or a collapse of the lung, can be due to bronchiectasis, an enlargement of the bronchial tubes, and a decrease in the effectiveness of their ciliated mucosal lining, which renders the lungs unable to clear themselves of clogging mucous build-up.
