This image depicts the face of a young child, who was sticking out his tongue revealing the manifestation of a condition referred to as glossitis, as well as dental caries, which had resulted from a vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A is essential in the body’s maintenance of its mucous membranes, and in the processes associated with tissue repair in general. A healthy tongue, and oral cavity, therefore, is very much dependent on the availability of vitamin A.
