This 2004 photograph is the eighteenth in a series of eighteen images depicting the paraphernalia, and steps to be followed, when a trained phlebotomist obtains a blood sample, by way of a venipuncture, using the contents of a Vacutainer® kit.
- At this point, the phlebotomist was disposing of the contaminated paraphernalia in an appropriate fashion. Here, the blood contaminated gauzed was being placed into a biohazard bag. The technician should always observe universal safety precautions, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep the work areas clean, and well organized.
