Description: Due to a Vitamin A deficiency this patient developed xerophthalmia, or drying of the eye with subsequent Bitot’s spots.
One of the symptoms of a Vitamin A deficiency is chronic drying of the conjunctival membrane, which covers the surface of the eye, and gives rise, if untreated to the development of keratinized patches known as Bitot’s spots.
