This image depicts a close view of the lips of a HIV/AIDS-positive patient, who was exhibiting a chronic mucocutaneous herpes lesion that had been one month in duration. Herpes simplex virus-type 1 (HSV-1) usually is the cause for oral lesions sometimes referred to as cold sores, fever blisters or more technically known as recurrent herpes labialis.
