ID#: 5985
Caption:
This photograph depicts a close dorsal view of an unidentified Ixodidae family hard tick, highlighting the tick’s mouthparts. Hard ticks can be divided into two groups: either the basis capituli display parallel lateral borders, as was the case here, or the basis capituli protrudes bilaterally, as in PHIL 5988. Mouthpart morphologic characteristics are often used in making an identification of these arthropods.
