Caption:
This photograph depicts a close dorsal view of the integumentary exterior surface of a nymph-staged North American soft tick from the genus Otobius. Of interest, are the numerous spiny setae that cover its exterior. The adult Otobius ticks are rarely seen, for they are not parasitic, and therefore, do not reside on the body of a host, but rather stays hidden in the environment prior to mating.
