This photograph depicts a dorsal view of a member of the Argasidae family of North American soft ticks, and the genus, Antricola. Note the leathery, tuberculated, or knobby, roughened integument, covering this tick. On the other hand, Ixodidae, hard ticks, are covered by a tough scutum. Antricola ticks use bats as their hosts.
