This 1975 image depicted a scene captured inside a migrant workers camp revealed the unsanitary conditions in the camp’s garbage storage area. Note the open garbage bins that were surrounded by trash, which could potentially attract rodents and insects to the site. When conditions are as unsanitary as those depicted here, it produces a dangerous health risk. Organisms attracted to these dirty environments, are normally carriers, or vectors, for many diseases that may be passed on to human beings. This image was used as part of a series, the purpose of which was to familiarize public health inspectors with proper food hygiene sanitation practices, and the myriad of food storage conditions found in migrant worker camps.
