This image was acquired in 1968 during Niger's Smallpox Eradication Program. The photograph depicts a member of the Niger Smallpox Eradication Prospection Team, using a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector to administer a smallpox vaccination to the right upper arm of a local Nigerien girl. Through the efforts of organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by the early 1970s, a growing number of nations had reached Zero-Pox.
