This image was acquired between 1967 and 1969 during Niger's Smallpox Eradication Program. The photograph depicts a public health field worker using a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector, in order to facilitate the administration of a dose of smallpox vaccine to a local Nigerien boy. Through the efforts of organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by the early 1970s, a growing number of nations had reached Zero-Pox.
