This image was acquired between 1967 and 1969 during Niger's Smallpox Eradication Program. The photograph depicts a public health field worker using a Ped-O-Jet® jet injector, in order to facilitate the administration of a dose of smallpox vaccine to a local Nigerien boy, who was seated atop his donkey. Through the efforts of organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by the early 1970s, a growing number of nations had reached Zero-Pox.
