This is a detailed view of a wax relief sculpture entitled, The Plague, created by the Italian artist, Gaetano Zumbo (1656–1701), who sculpted his human figures in wax, and depicts the horrors that this epidemic inflicted upon Italy, whereupon, so many died so quickly, that proper burials were not possible.
