This 1981 photograph depicted a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) employee, who had been temporarily staffed at the laboratory investigation headquarters in Love Canal, New York, where in 1978, a State of Emergency was declared after the discovery of environmental toxic chemicals in the area. Subsequently, the CDC, along with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), participated in a cytotoxicity study on local residents.
